La población de huemules situada más al norte se encuentra en la Reserva de la Biósfera Corredor Biológico Nevados de Chillán – Laguna del Laja. Esta población está en peligro crítico de extinción, siendo una de las principales causas de esto la fragmentación y degradación de sus ecosistemas. Por ello, este estudio analizó las áreas dentro de la reserva que ofrecen las condiciones necesarias para la conservación y restauración de hábitat del huemul. Con la intención de asegurar la supervivencia de la especie a lo largo del tiempo, se identificaron los componentes que estructuran su hábitat. Esta información, junto con los registros de avistamiento temporal y las variables ambientales y antropogénicas, permitió elaborar un mapa que muestra las áreas competentes para la conservación y restauración del hábitat, destacando las zonas con alta probabilidad de presencia del huemul. Al categorizar estas áreas, se determinó que la mayoría de los terrenos son de propiedad privada, concluyendo que es crucial identificar y priorizar las zonas con notable potencial para la preservación y recuperación del huemul para revertir la situación actual y permitir que la población de huemules aumente.The huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus) is an endemic species of Chile and Argentina that inhabits the Andes Mountains. The northernmost population of huemuls is located in the Nevados de Chillán Biological Corridor – Laguna del Laja Biosphere Reserve. This population is critically endangered, one of the main causes of this being the fragmentation and degradation of its ecosystems. Therefore, this study analyzed the areas within the reserve that offer the necessary conditions for the conservation and restoration of huemul habitat. With the intention of ensuring the survival of the species over time, the components that structure its habitat were identified. This information, together with the temporary sighting records and the environmental and anthropogenic variables, made it possible to design a map that shows the areas competent for the conservation and restoration of the habitat, highlighting the areas with a high probability of the presence of the huemul.
