Underground mining methods have seen an increase in the depth of the operations, mainly in block and panel caving methods, which are characterized by the needing of high productivity. This has led to a series of changes in the characteristics of the rock mass under complex geomechanical conditions and with increasingly lower grades in the mineral reserves. In this context, one of the main challenges is the accurate estimation of the gravitational flow of the material within the extraction column, due to its direct impact on dilution, average grade and the economic valuation of the project. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of different mixing algorithms used in the simulation of gravity flow in caving operations, in order to analyze their impact on the estimation of recoverable reserves and on the economic indicators of mine planning. To this end, a real underground operation using panel caving method was analyzed. The methodology examines the feasibility of integrating the Flowsim BC software into the Geovia Gems PCBC mining planning environment, which was not feasible, along with the use of tools such as CA3D based on cellular automata and the implementation of Marker Mixing algorithm. This was done to analyze the results and quantify the impact on average grade, dilution and the economic valuation of the project under different mixing scenarios. The results show errors below 5% in the estimation of the average grade, with some differences in how each algorithm represents the flow and mixing mechanisms. For this case, FlowSim had an error of 2.58% successfully replicated the preferential flow by incorporating the cave back effect, although in final periods it tends to overestimate the grade by not adequately simulating the surface rilling. CA3D showed an error of 4.88%, indicating limitations in initial periods due to the lack of a defined geometry for the extraction columns. Finally, Marker Mixing showed an error of 4.01%, characterized by an aggressive incorporation of external material in 2023. These differences impact in dilution and projected NPV, resulting in differences of up to $58 million dollars between scenarios. The results demonstrate that the selection and calibration of the mixing algorithm have a significant impact on reserve estimation and decision making in the evaluation for panel caving projects. ICP-OES analyses performed on the electrolyte showed that Mg2+ and Ca2+ concentrations decrease mainly during the KOH settling stage, while electrolysis generates minor additional variations. SO42-, Na+, and K+ ions remained mostly in solution. After the electrochemical tests, traces of Fe (13-16 mg L-1) were detected, associated with slight surface dissolution of the coating, with no appreciable detection of Ni, confirming the good structural stability of NiFe-LDH under the conditions evaluated. Overall, the results show that operating with 5 mol L-1 of KOH offered the best balance between decrease in starting potential, electrochemical stability, and operational viability, effectively mitigating the adverse effects of seawater ions and positioning EN/NiFe-LDH electrodes as a robust and promising alternative for direct seawater electrolysis.esCC BY-NC-ND 4.0 DEED Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 InternationalElectrodosHidrógenoIonesAguas marinasIndustria de alcalinosElectrodos EN/NiFe-LDH para la producción de hidrógeno: efectos de los iones del agua de mar y la concentración alcalina en su eficiencia y estabilidad.ThesisAGUA limpia y saneamientoENERGÍA asequible y sostenibleAcción CLIMÁTICA
