Wheat is one of the main cereals cultivated worldwide, which is affected by various rot root pathogens, such as the sharp eyespot, caused by the basidiomycete fungus Rhizoctonia cerealis. Currently there are no adequate treatments to control the disease. During the 2020-2021 season, an experiment was carried out with the winter wheat cultivars ‘Maxwell’ and ‘Rocky-INIA’ at the
Santa Rosa Experimental Station of the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), Chillán, where the efficacy of two strains of Pseudomonas protegens (strains Ca6 and Chc7), alone and mixed with fungicide (i.a.s: sedaxane + fludioxonil + 3 difenoconazole + thiamethoxan) were assessed in the control of R. cerealis, which was inoculated into the soil. Seed plots treated with P. protegens strain Chc7 significantly increased the yield of this cultivar compared to an inoculated control and another without inoculation in the cultivar ‘Rocky-INIA’, increasing this variable in 8.2 qq ha-1. The analysis of variables such as plant emergence, plant height, and grain quality variables, showed that there was no greater effect when using P. protegens bacteria, and its use did not reduce symptoms attributable to sharp eyespot infection. |
