Abstract: This research aims to investigate the effects of subtitles on students' listening comprehension skills. The general objective of this research is to describe the effects on the participants’ performance after using subtitles to develop listening comprehension. This study also aims to achieve specific objectives, including identifying the students' initial level of listening comprehension in regular English classes, determining if there is a change in the students' listening comprehension with the use of subtitles and finally to describe the participants’ perception of the use of subtitles as an innovative tool to improve listening comprehension. To be able to do this, the researchers implemented seven modules to an experimental high school group in which they used subtitles. The results of this research were conclusive however they were not significant. There was still a low but positive improvement in the listening comprehension skills after using videos with subtitles in both the mother language and the target language of the subjects. viii This research contributes to the existing body of knowledge by shedding light on the benefits of incorporating subtitles into language instruction and its impact on students' listening comprehension. Educators, curriculum designers, and language learning practitioners can utilise these findings to inform pedagogical practices and further enhance students' language learning experiences.
