Resumen:
This research aims to describe the behavior of class participation phenomenon by means of students' oral interactions in English speaking lessons at University of Concepción.
The present case study is descriptive research with a qualitative approach.The instruments of data collection are applied to students from higher education. The sources of data collection to analyze the phenomenon of participation are qualitative, being these; observations and interviews applied to describe the indicators that influence students’ participation in
English lessons during speaking activities in higher education. This case study concludes with the identification of five indicators that affect participation: Classroom Learning Environment, Anxiety, Motivation, Language Skills, and previous negative experiences related to
language.
