    Efecto de rasgos funcionales sobre el éxito de invasión en plantas invasoras de áreas protegidas del centro sur de Chile.

    Biological invasions produce negative changes in ecosystems. Functional traits are characteristics that have an effect on the invasion process. The best way to combat this process is to prevent the entry of potentially invasive species. Identifying the traits underlying the invasion process can aid decision-making by sociopolitical organizations. In Chile, the central-southern region is a hotspot for biodiversity and a priority conservation area. Traits such as dispersal type, reproductive type, growth form, fruit type, life cycle, and life strategy are traits that can have an effect on invasion success. Identifying the magnitude of these traits in protected areas in the central-southern zone of Chile is important for decision-making in biodiversity conservation. We consider that at different scales, there will be differences in the functional traits that are related to invasion success. At the local scale, vegetative reproduction, aggregated nut fruit type, and RS and CSR life strategies were important attributes. Similarly, interactions were found between attributes that were significant. The aggregated nuttlet fruit type always had the highest effect size, both at the local, landscape, and regional scales. The relationship between invasion success and aggregated nuttlet fruit type may be related to the propagule pressure hypothesis. This study can help to understand the patterns underlying the invasion process and thus contribute to decision-making and prevention of further invasive species entry into the protected areas of central-southern Chile.
