Item Comparación de métodos de tratamiento de botaderos.(Universidad de Concepción, 2024) Flores Galaz, Vasco; Díaz Noriega, Ramón; Hekmat, AsiehAcid drainage is a major issue in the mining industry as it generates various problems such as water acidification, contamination with heavy metals, and even damage to vegetation and human health. All of the above can create complications for everyday operations in a mine, making it of great importance to seek a solution to this significant problem. At the initial stage, this study employs the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to compare the most common prevention methods for acid drainage. Subsequently, based on the results obtained from AHP, the second stage involves utilizing the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to compare the most preferred methods selected through the AHP process. To achieve the aforementioned goals, extensive research was conducted on acid rock drainage, treatment methods of waste dumps, AHP, and LCA. Following a detailed study on treatment methods for waste dumps, the information needed to compare these methods using AHP was obtained. With established comparative criteria, the AHP method was employed to rank the treatment methods and identify the most suitable ones. The results obtained from this methodology revealed that the optimal methods are Dry Cover and Silane-Based Coating. In the final phase of this study, the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method was employed to evaluate the two most suitable methods, as identified by AHP (Dry Cover and Silane-Based Coating). Through LCA, we aimed to quantify the environmental impact of these methods, utilizing the OpenLCA software for precise calculations. The results obtained from the program, considering both the collected information and the author's considerations, revealed that the Silane-Based Coating method exhibits the most significant environmental impacts. This outcome serves to underscore the effectiveness of the LCA methodology in evaluating and comparing processes from an environmental standpoint.
