Punnin’ Around: Análisis Comparativo de la Traducción de Juegos de Palabras en el Doblaje y Subtitulado de la Serie Bojack Horseman.

Puns are present in all types of media. They often represent a great challenge for translators, as they are closely related to the structural characteristics of a language and, in addition, they often appear in situations that are already linguistically challenging due to their ambiguity and subjectivity: humorous ones. In the present study, an analysis of the translation of the puns present in the second season of the animated series Bojack Horseman was carried out, both in its dubbing and in its subtitles into Latin Spanish, with the aim of determining which of these audiovisual translation modalities is of higher quality regarding the translation of puns. The used criteria were the preservation of the puns according to the balance model of Marco (2010), based on the taxonomy of pun translation proposed by Delabastita (1996). It is concluded that subtitling preserves a higher number of puns, although the difference between the number of puns preserved by both modalities is not large.
