Item Evaluación de indicadores de estrés por captura, transporte y aclimatación en Mugil cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758), y su efecto en la sobrevivencia en cautiverio.(Universidad de Concepción, 2024) Valdebenito Victoriano, Constanza Aracely; Valenzuela Saldías, Ariel EdgardoIn order to increase the survival of the mullet in captivity, corrective measures were applied in the handling, capture and transfer of Mugil cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758) in order to reduce the stress produced in these stages. Stress was evaluated by means of cortisol, hematological parameters and blood chemicals. Where the standard procedure of the routine capture from the fishermen for the mullet was compared, the transport and acclimatization of the fish (control group) with modifications in the stage of capture and transfer of the individuals (procedure 1), and then incorporating modifications in the acclimatization stage in the ponds (procedure 2). The procedures were compared by stages (capture, transport and acclimatization) according to the stress indicators considering n = 5 individuals. In this way, the effect of the corrective measures in the different procedures on the% mortality and% survival of M. cephalus was compared. The analysis were carried out by applying a Shapiro Wilk normality test with 95% confidence, then an Anova was applied for the data that had a normal distribution and a non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test for the data that did not have a normal distribution. The main results showed that for blood chemistry parameters and stress indices, no significant differences were observed except for white blood cells in acclimatization at 7 and 14 days between the control group and procedure 2 with a p-value of 0,03 in the 7 days and 0,02 in the 14 days, and for the hematocrit in the capture the control group versus the procedure 1 had a significant p-value of 0,05 as well as the % of mortality and % of survival where mortality decreased and survival increased when applying procedure 2. Concluding that by applying these corrections in handling, transfer and acclimatization, a higher survival in captivity and lower mortality are obtained in Mugil cephalus. Finally, according to the results obtained, procedure 2 is the one that presented the greatest significant differences, therefore, it must be taken into account in order to increase the survival in captivity of the M. cephalus.
