Categorización de recursos minerales: análisis de variables y valores de corte.
(Universidad de Concepción, 2024) Vegas Fica, Byron Gabriel; Fustos Toribio, Roberto
Categorization of mineral resources is a critical stage when it comes to the study of a deposit. Depending on all the processes prior to its completion, it is the stage in charge of delivering results related to the quality of the estimate made and the reliability of the resources obtained. This is why a complete analysis methodology is necessary. Thanks to multiple attempts to standardize this process, the creation of the international standards committee for reporting mineral reserves CRIRSCO emerged. The member countries of this committee began to create international codes in search of similar understanding between countries on the fundamental concepts when categorizing and regarding the delivery of responsibilities and minimum information to be included in reports on mining exploration prospects. Currently there is no standard method for defining categories in any type of deposit, but both the methods for doing so and the parameters or cut-off values used vary from deposit to deposit and from person to person. Through the comparison and analysis of categorization methods, the objective of this work is to present in a real case the behavior of the variables within a deposit, applying various categorization methods. This is possible thanks to the review of technical reports of mining prospects in the SEDAR database of the Canadian TSX (Toronto Stock Exchange). From where the most used methods (as well as the cut-off values) were extracted when categorizing resources in the industry by the competent people responsible for writing and signing said reports. Finally, there are endless categorization methods, each of which is focused on different variables to achieve its goal. The analysis of variables carried out leads to defining the most sampled sectors as more reliable, depending on the person who performs the reliability analysis of the resources in a deposit, the amounts of resources assigned in each of the categories. The quality at the time of defining cut-off values for each of the variables present in the categorization process is highly dependent on the experience of the professional in charge of analyzing the deposit, as well as the certainty of the categorization process.
