Abstract
This study aims to study social imaginaries about the intimate relationships of young people who are linked to symbolic violence based on gender, built by university students from the city of Chillán, Region of Ñuble, Chile. Qualitative, descriptive research was conducted with semi-structured interviews and discussion groups involving 29 university students. Among the main results highlights that students conceive this relational field as a space permeated by logic of domination allusive to control, jealousy, invasion of personal space and coercion that operate covertly, as expressions of symbolic violence. Moreover, these logics of domination are supported by verbal and non-verbal practices that reinforce the binomial domain-submission in the context of intimate relationships. Even when students negatively connote these practices, they do not always recognize them as expressions of violence, since they are conceived as manifestations expected for this relational plane.
