Abstract
Las inundaciones en el Norte Grande de Chile son un problema frecuente y relevante, gatillado por tormentas convectivas que se producen durante el invierno boliviano afectando a la población y generando pérdidas en infraestructura. El presente estudio analiza la infiltración en una subcuenca del río Vilama. Para ello, se realizaron mediciones de la tasa de infiltración en distintos puntos de la cuenca y se caracterizó el tipo de suelo mediante análisis granulométrico de muestras tomadas in situ. Se analizó la precipitación a partir de datos contenidos en el producto satelital IMERG v07. Se realizó un balance hídrico para analizar la generación de la escorrentía superficial en la cuenca de estudio durante una tormenta. Se encuentra que la generación de caudales de escorrentía es coherente con los periodos de retorno asociados a las precipitaciones históricas.
Flooding in northern Chile is a frequent and significant problem, triggered by convective storms that occur during the Bolivian winter, affecting the population and causing infrastructure losses. This study analyzes infiltration processes in a sub-basin of the Vilama River. To this end, infiltration rate measurements were conducted at different locations within the basin, and soil types were characterized through granulometric analysis of samples collected in situ. Precipitation was analyzed using data from the satellite-based IMERG v07 product. A water balance was performed to assess the generation of surface runoff in the study basin during a storm event. The results indicate that the generation of runoff discharges is consistent with the return periods associated with historical precipitation events.
