Abstract
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a crop of great importance worldwide and nationally, whose yield is threatened by increasing water scarcity. In this context, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have been proposed as a sustainable alternative to mitigate the effects of water deficit and improve productivity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the application of PGPRs in the Zafiro-INIA rice variety under controlled water-deficit conditions. Six treatments were established, including a control under flooding, a control under water deficit, and four treatments with inoculation of PGPRs of the genera Pseudomonas and Bacillus, producers of indoleacetic acid (IAA) or ACC deaminase. Growth traits, biomass production, root development, and leaf chlorophyll content (SPAD) and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters were evaluated. The results showed no statistically significant differences between treatments in most growth and biomass production variables. Regarding photosynthetic parameters, stability was observed in LEF, Phi2, qL, and SPAD, whereas Fv´/Fm´ showed differences on one evaluation date, without being directly attributed to PGPR inoculation. The results suggest that no effective association was established between rice plants and PGPRs.
