Abstract

Endophytic bacteria have been described as plant growth promoters and can improve plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. These bacteria can stimulate plant growth through nutrient mobilization, biological nitrogen fixation and phosphorus solubilization. Furthermore, they are characterized by residing most of their cycle in the internal tissues of the plant without causing damage to their host. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the presence of different bacteria of the genus Bacillus in the rhizosphere and internal tissues of different fractions of the tomato plant (Solanum lycopersicum). Five rhizospheric bacterial strains of the genus Bacillus spp. were used, and their endophytic capacity was evaluated from inoculation to 42 days after emergence. The presence of bacteria in the rhizosphere was verified immediately after inoculation and during the experiment, and it was observed that the populations were always statistically similar between bacterial strains. Of the bacteria evaluated, Bacillus thuringiensis AG-86, and B. safensis strains AG-91, and AG-92 were re-isolated from the internal tissues of tomato stems and roots and were therefore considered endophytic.
