Abstract
The present project addresses a proposal for post-fire ecological rehabilitation in Parque Catirai, located in the Biobío Region, Chile, which highlights the importance of its recovery due to its status as a public space dedicated to community use and the preservation of the local biodiversity. Through field sampling, literature review, and the use of GIS, a characterization of the biotic and abiotic conditions of the area affected by the fire was conducted, which allowed the identification of different levels of fire severity, assessment of erosion risks, and analysis of the composition and response of both native and exotic vegetation post-fire. The prioritized sites for the implementation of restoration actions were identified and zoned, with an emphasis on erosion risk and accessibility for the local community. The results underscore the importance of precise identification of areas requiring intervention, as well as the formulation of specific restoration actions for each zone, accompanied by a monitoring plan aimed at evaluating the success and ecosystem response to the interventions implemented. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive characterization of the study area to formulate context-specific restoration objectives and implement specific rehabilitation actions, aiming to promote sustainable ecological recovery with beneficial impacts at both environmental and social levels.
