Corn is a grass native to Mesoamerica. In Chile, most of the corn area (75 %) is used for animal feed, with a smaller amount for human consumption. In the production of this grass, it is essential to determine the optimal planting density for each genotype in the different producing regions of the country. Although an increase in density can quadratically increase yield, it will be reduced if the optimal density is exceeded, resulting in fewer grains per ear and lower grain weight. Additionally, the impact of density on yield is also conditioned by the genetic potential of the material used. Consequently, it is necessary to establish an optimal planting density that maximizes the use of available resources and achieves the maximum yield per unit area by coordinating population density and individual plant development. To this end, the objective of this monograph is to investigate the effect of planting density on the morphology and productivity of corn crops.en
