Abstract
La creciente popularidad de las plataformas de streaming ha aumentado la necesidad de traducir referentes culturales, incluidos los sexuales. Estos son particularmente desafiantes debido a las diferencias sociales y lingüísticas a lo largo de los años. La sexualidad y la identidad de género han dejado de conceptualizarse de manera estricta y rígido, se han convertido en algo más diverso e inclusivo, por lo que podría influir en la forma en que se transfiere y subtitula la información. En el estudio se analizará cómo se traducen los culturemas sexuales al español latino en tres sitcoms: Friends (1994-2004), How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014) y How I Met Your Father (2022-2023), con el objetivo de identificar si existieron cambios en la evolución diacrónica de las técnicas de traducción utilizadas, y si estas reflejan transformaciones sociales en torno a la sexualidad. Para ello, se trabajó con un corpus paralelo de episodios seleccionados, clasificando las traducciones según la taxonomía de Molina y Hurtado (2002) y comparando sus tendencias de uso en cada década. Los resultados muestran una evolución en las decisiones de traducción: en Friends predominó la literalidad, mientras que en las series posteriores se incrementó el uso de técnicas como la generalización, la variación, y la creación discursiva. En conjunto, se evidencia una tendencia hacia la domesticación, lo que refleja tanto la búsqueda de mayor naturalidad en la cultura meta como los cambios sociales en la representación de la sexualidad.
The rise of streaming platforms has increased the need to translate cultural references, including sexual ones, which pose a challenge due to their social and linguistic variations over time. Sexuality and gender identity have moved from rigid conceptions to more diverse and inclusive views, which can influence the way content is subtitled and adapted. In this research, the translation into Latin Spanish of sexual cultural references of three sitcoms was analyzed: Friends (1994-2004), How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014) and How I Met Your Father (2022-2023), with the aim of identifying whether there were changes in the diachronic evolution of the translation techniques and whether they reflect social changes around sexuality. To this end, we worked with a parallel corpus of a selection of episodes, classifying the translations according to the taxonomy of Molina and Hurtado (2002) and comparing their tendencies in technique use in each decade. The results show an evolution in translation decisions: in Friends literality predominated, while in the later series the use of techniques such as generalization, variation, and discursive creation increased. Overall, there is evidence of a tendency towards domestication, which reflects both the search for greater naturalness in the target culture and the social changes in the representation of sexuality.
