The species Sophora cassioides, belong to the legume family and section Edwardsia, in the southern hemisphere, this section is divided into about 20 species, which have aroused scientific interest due to their phylogenetic affinity, nodulation capacity and habitats on oceanic islands. The aim of this report was to evaluate the nodulation and nitrogen fixation capacity by inoculation with different rhizobial strains of species of the section Edwarsia. Inoculation trials were carried out with 23 strains, of which 12 were successful in inducing nodulation. Strains AG-260, AG-261 and AG-252 stood out for their superior nodulation rate. In some treatments, despite the absence of leg haemoglobin in the nodules, strains such as AG-264 promoted higher aerial biomass, suggesting alternative growth stimulation mechanisms. Cluster analysis revealed that strain AG-274 was the most effective in biomass production, while the New Zealand strains, although inducing nodules, did not show significant benefits in terms of dry weight. This highlights the importance of specificity between rhizobia and their host plant for effective nitrogen fixation. However, it is essential to carry out further studies in undisturbed environments and to assess the environmental conditions that affect this interaction.en
