Abstract
The productive potential of six broccoli genotypes (Brassica oleracea var. italica) grown during the spring-summer season in the peri-urban area of Concepción, Biobío region, was evaluated. This research was conducted in response to climate change, which has altered the thermal conditions in the Concepción area, allowing for an extension of both the broccoli planting calendar and the traditional growing area. The trial was set up using a completely randomized block design, where the primary factor was the six broccoli varieties. Variables such as total biomass, weight and quality of the head, yield, and commercial parameters such as color and diameter of the inflorescence were measured. The results showed significant differences (p < 0.05) between the genotypes evaluated, with the Legacy variety standing out, obtaining the highest yield of 73.75 t ha⁻¹ and quality. Other varieties such as Ospay and Abrams achieved yields of 57.8 t ha⁻¹ and 52.3 t ha⁻¹ respectively, in addition to obtaining quality characteristics within the parameters required by the market, suggesting their potential for diversifying production in the area. These results confirm that the genotypes studied can develop adequately under spring conditions in the Biobío region, positioning this region as an emerging area for intensive broccoli production.
