Abstract
The Meullín Puye Nature Sanctuary is a reserve located in the Aysén region. It boasts an intact water network, numerous wetlands, and a humid temperate forest, home to native species of flora, fauna, and fungi of great ecological value. It is important to note that it hosts various pristine habitats, which require protection due to their important ecosystem functions. These include regulating the water and nutrient cycle, mitigating climate change, and supporting biodiversity (Kreen, n.d.). This work focuses on the development of a management plan for the "La Papaya" property, located in the region of influence of the Meullín-Puye Nature Sanctuary, with the goal of reducing the negative impacts of recreational activities and promoting environmental conservation. Through semi-structured interviews, zoning, and a literature review, the most common recreational activities were identified, including hiking, kayaking, and camping, as well as their impacts on the environment, particularly soil compaction and loss, the introduction of exotic species, and the risk of forest fires. Zoning of the area allowed for the identification of sectors of high ecological value, highlighting the need to implement specific regulations to protect these ecosystems. The research emphasizes that, although some conservation measures exist in the area, it is essential to implement additional strategies, such as environmental education and awareness, regulating the use of natural resources, and adapting infrastructure to sustainably meet visitor needs. In conclusion, this study offers a management plan with concrete guidelines and monitoring criteria to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed measures. These recommendations seek to achieve a balance between the development of recreational activities and the protection of the biodiversity of the "La Papaya" property and its surrounding area, promoting long-term sustainability in this unique region.
