Abstract
The present study addresses the urban problem associated with the deterioration of public space derived from industrial pollution, a problem that is framed within the conflict of living with industry. The case study corresponds to the intermediate public space between the industry and the residential sector on the outskirts of Hualpén, specifically on the edge of the El Triángulo sector and part of La Floresta located in front of the ENAP industrial estate. The spatial deterioration and underuse of public space are identified, in order to elucidate how urban design strategies can contribute to the improvement of this degraded space. To achieve this objective, the implementation of green infrastructure is proposed as a proposal, which allows counteracting the negative effects of industrial pollution. In this way, a spatial and environmental analysis of the study area is carried out through remote sensing tools, together with the literature review on the implementation of green infrastructure and complementary Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). With all of this information, a project strategy for the urban design of this edge public space is proposed. The results allowed us to identify the potential and limitations of the study area, in addition to corroborating the importance of collaboration between strategies for their correct functioning, in addition to the multifunctionality that they must fulfill when the underlying problem has a complexity on a larger scale.
