Abstract
This study addresses the improvement of equipment performance in the Tailings Area at División Gabriela Mistral through the application of the Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodology. The research responds to the high frequency of unplanned shutdowns in critical equipment, which negatively impact availability and MTBF, generating significant production losses. The methodology was developed in six stages: assessment of the operational context, analysis of historical data, criticality evaluation, execution of FMEA, definition of maintenance policies, and comparison with existing plans and manufacturer recommendations. The results show that hydraulic failures and displacement system issues have the greatest impact, mainly due to organizational gaps and spare parts problems. Implementing the proposed strategy would increase availability by 1 percentage point (equivalent to 7.5 hours per month) and production by 3%. The study highlights the importance of integrating technical analysis, organizational management, and collaborative work to optimize reliability and operational continuity.
