Abstract
An internship was carried out at the Hospital Clínico Veterinario (HCV) Unidad de Animales Mayores “Lionel Leigh Fournier” of the Universidad de Concepción, Campus Chillán, between March and July 2024, with the objective of reinforcing knowledge in the area of medicine of large animals. We worked with equines, ruminants, South American camelids and pigs, interacting with hospital staff and teachers with follow-up of real cases through the development of a complete clinical examination, definition of diagnoses, prognoses and discrimination of critical, hospitalized and ambulatory patients. Medical/surgical treatments and complementary management such as clinical laboratory, imaging and clinical pathology were developed. Hospital shifts, animal feeding, drug administration and patient evolution were performed. During the internship, a bovine was evaluated as a clinical case admitted for a bulging in the perineal area about 10 months ago with a size of 25 cm high, 17 cm wide and 13 cm deep, accompanied by dysuria, stranguria and pollakiuria, chronic pain, tegumentary and ophthalmic alterations in its evaluation. Stabilization treatment was implemented based on fluid therapy with lactated ringer's solution and vitamin B complex for the development of the diagnosis and subsequent reevaluation. The complementary examinations determined: liquid content in her interior accompanied by sediment in the ultrasound and analysis of fluids coincident with urine, generated by a stenosis of the distal urethra. Perineal urethrostomy was determined as a permanent surgical resolution.
