Abstract

In this context, the objective of this study was to develop a preliminary inventory of therapeutic gardens in Chile and to characterize their administrative, physical, and ecological attributes. To this end, a review of information available on websites was conducted. A total of 33 therapeutic gardens located in urban areas of the country were identified, with a marked concentration in the Metropolitan Region and a predominance of initiatives linked to the health sector. From a physical perspective, these spaces showed high green infrastructure, and exposed soil coverage concentrated in low to medium categories. From an ecological perspective, the predominance of exotic species and a low representation of native and endemic species were observed. Overall, the results showed that therapeutic gardens constitute an emerging type of urban green space with opportunities to strengthen their contribution to biodiversity conservation.
