Abstract
Introduction: Both the work carried out in oncology services and the experience of facing the COVID-19 pandemic brought physical, emotional, and social consequences for nursing professionals. Objective: To analyze the experiences of nursing professionals in providing care to adult patients hospitalized in oncology services after the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: A qualitative, phenomenological–interpretive study was conducted, based on Afaf Meleis’ Transitions Theory. The participants were nurses from onco-hematology units, selected through intensive purposive sampling. A total of five in-depth interviews were carried out until data saturation was achieved. The resulting narratives were analyzed following Bardin’s content analysis methodology, with the support of ATLAS.ti software. Results: From the analysis of the in-depth interviews, seven thematic groups emerged, mediated by the pandemic, related to: work dynamics, personal experiences, the emotional and relational dimension of care, the structural conditions of the health system, and experiences facing death. Conclusions: The findings highlight that the pandemic, despite the difficulties and perceived dehumanization at its most critical stage, constituted a turning point that generated opportunities for improvement for both individuals and institutions, promoting the consolidation of more conscious, respectful, and person-centered Care practices.
