Abstract
Pruning is one of the fundamental activities in a plantation to increase its value. There are a variety of tools that can be used for its execution, however, due to the need to innovate for its improvement, the performance of the electric pruning shear was studied by determining the tree variables that affect its productivity and comparing results obtained from previous studies on the New Zealand pruning shear. Data were obtained at the stand level and the time taken by workers to prune trees was evaluated. Through linear regressions, the variables that best explained the yield (arb ha-1) were obtained: diameter at breast height (DBH) (cm), number of whorls (NV) and number of total branches pruned (NRP). A comparison of both earwig and New Zealand earwig showed that the electric earwig had a better yield of 224 arb ha-1 as opposed to the New Zealand earwig, which had a yield of 210 arb ha-1.
