Abstract
Central Chile boasts a high level of endemism and biodiversity, making it a biodiversity hotspot that faces significant threats. However, there is a lack of upto-date information regarding its status and the changes in land cover and land use over the past century. The objective of this study was to identify priority conservation sites in the municipalities of Palmilla, Santa Cruz, Nancagua, Placilla, and San Fernando, located in the Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins Region. These municipalities currently lack comprehensive studies and research at multiple scales, considering various criteria related to the existing biodiversity and integrating ecosystem services. Using the Systematic Conservation Planning approach, priority conservation sites were identified based on the High Ecological Value of the area. This determination resulted from analyzing ecological and socioecological attributes in collaboration with local experts and stakeholders. The outcomes contribute to identifying areas of high conservation value, which can be subsequently incorporated into management and territorial planning measure.
