Abstract
COVID-19 is caused by a novel coronavirus named SARS-CoV-2 which has caused a persistent worldwide pandemic. The scientific community has worked to develop an effective vaccine to provide immune protection by inducing the production of antibodies, for example, directed against the SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein Receptor Binding Domain (S-RBD) that coordinates its entry into host cells. Now in Chile, have begun a vaccination campaign, using mostly the BNT162b2 and CoronaVac vaccines The aim of this study was determining the levels of anti-S-RBD SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in individuals vaccinated with the second dose of the BNT162b2 or CoronaVac vaccines, in the Biobío Region, Chile. It was determinated for 75 individuals at the PreveGen Clinical Laboratory, Concepción, who were classified into two study groups according to the vaccine received, where 21 individuals were vaccinated with the BNT162b2 vaccine and 54 individuals with CoronaVac. The levels of anti-S-RBD SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in individuals vaccinated with BNT162b2 were significantly higher compared to the levels achieved with the CoronaVac vaccine; median 100.00 (59.50 - 100.0) AU / mL and 20.74 (8.96 - 40.82) AU / mL. Furthermore, it was found that age and gender do not produce significant differences within the same study group, and the levels of these antibodies decrease significantly over time. In conclusion, individuals vaccinated with BNT162b2 presented higher levels of anti-S-RBD SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies, without influence of age and gender.
