Abstract

Affective relationships have undergone profound changes in the contemporary era, and thereby new lexical units have emerged in the Spanish language, especially anglicisms, to name these rising dynamics characterized by immediacy and lack of commitment. Therefore, it is relevant to investigate how they are adopted, adapted, and used in the Spanish language. For this purpose, we elaborated an oral and written corpus, conformed by terms of a podcast and digital press, from which we extracted 21 and 31 neologisms, respectively. For the analysis, we contemplated the strategies of adoption and adaptation, and the use of metadiscursive and typographic marks according to the context of each unit. The results showed a clear tendency towards the unadapted loanword over the adapted loanword. Regarding the use of metadiscursive and typographic marks, it was observed that there was a prevalent use of gloss and quotation marks, respectively. Moreover, we analyzed how these anglicisms allow us to understand social, emotional, and communicative transformations of current affective relationships. Additionally, we reflected on the role of translators, showing that their work stands between the responsibility of communicating with fluency and the need to preserve the language identity.
