Abstract
The main goal of this research was the assessment and comparison of the efficiency in terms of mass and energy of a culture of microalgae Scenedesmus sp. in two types of photobioreactors, raceway and tubular, under different pH conditions, that is pH of 6,5; 7,0 and 7,5. For that purpose, pilot reactors located in the Photobioreactor Pilot Plant of the Agricultural Engineering Faculty were used. The photobioreactors were loaded with 30% in volume of inoculums of the microalgae Scenedesmus sp., using Z-8 as culture medium. The biomass yield indicator per unit of input energy was higher in the raceway reactor and showed a maximum value of 1.487 g MJ-1, while in the tubular reactor the maximum value was 0.213 g MJ-1. The index of energy efficiency was maximum for the raceway reactor with a value of 0.0229 MJ MJ-1 along with a correspondent maximum valuefor the tubular reactor of 0.0033 MJ MJ-1. Finally the carbon trapping ratio varied between 70.22 to 45.17 g kg-1 for the raceway reactor and between 48.0 to 53.72 g kg-1 for the tubular reactor in the pH range between 6.5 and 7.5.
