Abstract

In this thesis, we will review some important aspects of the theory of topological solitons, and describe some novel techniques for generating exact solutions for the Non-Linear Sigma Model and the Skyrme model. We also will introduce the particular case of the Chiral Soliton Lattice, a non-homogeneus phase of low-energy QCD, and show how it is an universal feature of low-QCD coupled with electromagnetism, as it is a solution of the Skyrme-Maxwell model, at all orders in the ’t Hooft expansion. The properties of these new solutions also allow us to do analytical exploration of the coupling of quark matter with these chiral solitonic backgrounds. Also, an expression for the energy spectrum for the case of high baryonic density is derived and some of its properties are discussed.
