Abstract
In this study the growth of microalga Scenedesmus spinosus was determined in four culture media, that are: Z8, Watanabe, Bristol and BG-11, using a semi-industrial tubular bioreactor. Biomass growth was measured by turbidity difference over time for the culture media. The reactor (1.6 m3 ) consists of four vertical and four horizontal tubes joined by PVC conexions. Pipes were made of transparent polycarbonate. Its operation mode was similar to an "air-lift" reactor. Furthermore, transmittance, total solid contents, radiation, temperature and pH were measured. The Z8 medium showed the highest biomass growth, while a minimum growth was observed for the Bristol medium. Finally, a maximum biomass productivity of 81 g * m-3 * day 1 was found for the Z8 medium.
