Abstract
This research aimed to study the equivalence of oenological terms in the Spanish and English technical sheets of the line of premium wines ‘Luxury Brands’ from Viña Concha y Toro, and to elaborate an oenological glossary with simple definitions in order to contribute to the clarity of the terms. On the Spanish sheets, 102 terms were identified, which were registered along with their linguistic information in a database. The equivalents of the 102 terms were defined based on their definitions and occurrence in parallel texts to create a database in English. On the other hand, the use of terminological variants within the 102 Spanish terms was identified, reducing the number of terms to 84. The equivalents used in the technical sheets of these terms were compared with those in the English database. As a result, it was determined that 89% of the terms coincided in their semantic information in all cases that were used, 7% did not coincide and 4% partially coincided. Then, an analysis was conducted to determine the nature of their discrepancy or coincidence. Based on the information obtained, simple formal definitions of the terms in Spanish were elaborated using Pearson's (1998) formula, as well as an oenological glossary in Spanish with equivalent terms in English for all those interested in the oenological field.
