Abstract
The development of new technologies is a key factor in the improvement of production yields and products quality, which leads to the creation of new machineries to achieve this goal. The scope of this work was to design a mobile honey extraction room with the objective to improve the conditions of this operation. As a necessary condition, the design should comply with Chilean, requirements about processing, GAP and Chilean Safety Association regulations. Two different designs were obtained (long: 5434 mm, wide: 2000 mm, high: 2647 mm), and both meet the requirements to process honey in the field, reducing the time required to perform this operation. They also reduce the operational costs for beekeepers, as they avoid the loss of hives due to fugue or death of the families during transport to processing facilities located far from the harvesting area. Each design uses a different selection of equipment and therefore has a different processing capacity. According to this, Design 1 can be selected for a larger number of frames per hour (200 frames h-1), or Design 2 (150 frames h-1) can be chosen due to its lower investment cost. However, both designs have similar characteristics and are equally adequate to perform the extraction of honey in the field.
