Abstract

The Bullileo reservoir was designed as a water storage facility for agricultural use in the Maule Region, Linares Province. The reservoir is built on the Bullileo River, a tributary of the Longaví River, which can store 60 Hm3, thus ensuring irrigation for the Longaví River users during the dry months. The Bullileo Reservoir is managed by the Longaví River Surveillance Board. Upstream of the reservoir is the Amargo Lagoon. This work was developed in collaboration with the Longaví River Surveillance Board (JVRL) and aimed to analyze the feasibility of using the Amargo Lagoon for the operation of the Bullileo Reservoir. To do this, the lagoon was studied and different hydrological techniques were applied to determine the contributing flow and the volume of the lagoon. Using the Hydrus 21 sensors and METER ZL6 Datalogger installed in 2020, it was possible to analyze the filling behavior of the lagoon. Based on this analysis, the feasibility of building a regulating gate to control the volume of the lagoon was studied to be used as a supplement to the volume stored by the reservoir, so that the Longaví River Surveillance Board (JVRL) can better manage the two bodies of water, having more options when making decisions.
