Abstract
The present work has the general objective of exploring and proposing alternatives for the sustainable management of the organic fraction of solid waste generated in the communes of Chillán, Chillán Viejo, Temuco, and Santa Juana. The methodology employed is based on a comprehensive literature review, complemented by the collection of relevant data from governmental sources, ensuring the reliability of the analyzed information. An experimental design is not specified, as the focus is primarily theoretical and analytical. The results indicate that the organic fraction accounts for approximately 50% of the waste generated in the studied communes, with Temuco and Chillán showing higher per capita production rates, attributable to their more dynamic economic activity. The conclusions emphasize the need to implement waste management policies tailored to the specific characteristics of each commune, highlighting the importance of developing recycling and composting infrastructures in areas with higher waste generation, as well as promoting sustainable consumption practices and environmental education in all communes.
