Abstract
Introduction: Intermittent fasting (IF) is associated with beneficial effects on metabolic health. For this reason, the purpose of this research is to analyze the effects that intermittent fasting could have on glucose homeostasis in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methodology: This bibliographic search has 3 scientific reviews and 9 case studies, Obtained from PubMed and Cochrane. Results: A decrease in insulin of 3.4 mU/L occurred with an AI 18:6. Regarding glycemia, the greatest decrease (23.43 mg/dl) occurred with a 5:2 fast on consecutive days. On the other hand, hypoglycemic events occurred in all studies with AI 5:2. Finally, the greatest decrease in HbA1C (4%) was seen in an intervention with AI 4:3. Conclusion: It is not yet possible to draw conclusive conclusions. However, they constitute an alternative to analyze.
