Abstract
We evaluated the culture conditions of microalgae Scenedesmus spinosus strain in tubular (1.6 m³) and raceway (1.2 m³) bioreactors, which were designed to produce microalgae using Z-8 culture medium with inyection of carbon dioxide, which were coupled to an electronic monitoring and control system of operational variables. In both bioreactors, during three periods of three weeks each culture was maintained at a fixed pH (6.5; 7.0 or 7.5). Of each bioreactor three random samples were taken three times a week to analyze pH, turbidity, transmittance and temperature. Only at the beginning and at the end of the culture period total solids were determined and photomicrographs were taken to determine to the cellular state of culture. From this study was concluded that maximum production of biomass of Scenedesmus spinosus was achieved at pH 6.5 in the bioreactor of the raceway type, reaching a productivity of 371 m¯³ día¯¹; 0.78% total solids; a turbidity of 858 NTU and a transmittance of 5%
