Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to compare the text of two touristic websites, focused on offering their services in the area of Torres del Paine National Park, with their respective versions translated into English, in order to find, analyse and offer possible solutions to problems in the translation of technicisms, culturemes and idiomatic expressions. The text of different sections of the chosen websites were transcribed to simplify its reading and the selection of items. Their analysis was carried out by using a form, classifying them by type of item, type of problem and final status, then addressing the source of the problem by an analysis based on specialized dictionaries and parallel texts. From this analysis, a new translation proposal was created to solve the identified problems. The results showed plenty of case studies, especially from technicisms. The effects of these problems on the target text varied, ranging from linguistic inaccuracies to more serious cases, such as false meanings or information gaps. These results may encourage the use of this kinds of texts in the academic field as study material in university lectures and research studies, while also addressing possible procedures and criteria used in professional translation and edition assignments.
