Abstract
Introduction: It has been shown that sexual behavior can be influenced by both sex and sexual orientation. However, there are no current Chilean figures on the relationship between these variables during the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To characterize the relationship between sex and sexual orientation and the sexual behavior of people residing in Chile, obtained during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and method: A quantitative, cross-sectional, analytical study. The population was comprised of 3886 people aged ≥18 years and residing in Chile. They completed a virtual survey on behaviors and practices during the COVID-19 pandemic during 2020 and 2021. A bivariate analysis of qualitative variables was performed, with a p< 0.05 value for statistical significance (SPSS v19.0 software). Results: Women report greater participation in submissive sexual practices, while men are more inclined toward domination. Heterosexual and bisexual women experience more pleasure from solitary masturbation than men. Homosexual women are the most likely to use dildos and vibrators. Sexual attraction to a person is primarily associated with physical attractiveness, being more relevant for men, while personality and values are more important for women. Conclusions: These findings underscore how the pandemic and social dynamics impacted sexual behaviors and preferences in the Chilean population, reflecting notable variations across genders and sexual orientations.
