dc.description.abstractSe analizaron los cambios de uso de suelo en la subcuenca del río Ñuble entre los años 1997 - 2023 y su influencia en el hábitat del huemul, un ícono de la fauna chilena. Se utilizó una combinación de análisis de imágenes satelitales, coberturas de CONAF y grillas de avistamiento de huemules para caracterizar el hábitat de la especie y cuantificar los cambios en el uso del suelo. Además, se consideraron variables topográficas para identificar sectores potenciales donde podría habitar el huemul. Se identificó la marcada preferencia de la especie por áreas de bosque nativo y matorral, así como su relación con la altitud, pendiente y exposición solar. Se detectaron cambios significativos en el uso del suelo, como la expansión de la estepa andina y la disminución de la cobertura nival. Se identificó el cambio climático, incendios, veranadas y parcelaciones como factores forzantes de dichos cambios. Se concluyó que los cambios en el uso del suelo, influenciados por los factores antes mencionados, están afectando el hábitat del huemul. Finalmente se destacó la importancia de identificar áreas prioritarias para la conservación del huemul.es
dc.description.abstractThe changes in land use in the Ñuble River sub-basin between 1997 and 2023 and their impact on the habitat of the huemul, an icon of Chilean fauna, were analyzed. A combination of satellite image analysis, CONAF coverage, and huemul sighting grids was used to characterize the species' habitat and quantify changes in land use. Additionally, topographic variables were considered to identify potential areas where the huemul could inhabit. The species showed a marked preference for areas of native forest and scrubland, as well as a relationship with altitude, slope, and solar exposure. Significant changes in land use were detected, such as the expansion of the Andean steppe and the decrease in snow cover. Climate change, fires, transhumance, and parceling were identified as driving factors behind these changes. It was concluded that changes in land use, influenced by the aforementioned factors, are affecting the huemul habitat. Finally, the importance of identifying priority areas for huemul conservation was emphasized.en
