Item Modelo de resistividad eléctrica del Volcán Cerro Overo.(Universidad de Concepción, 2024) Alarcón Márquez, Noemi Alejandra; Oliveros Clavijo, Verónica Laura; Díaz, DanielCerro Overo is a maar of basaltic andesite composition (∼ 54%SiO2) located in the Central Andean Volcanic Zone (CAVZ), which is highly unusual for CVZ magmas. Its morphology is the result of a phreatomagmatic eruption in one of the world’s driest deserts. To better understand the subsurface morphology of the maar, a magnetotelluric survey was carried out. The resulting 3D resistivity model indicated the presence of a diatreme-like structure beneath Cerro Overo; however, contrary to other diatremes imaged worldwide, it is characterized as a highly conductive body down to a depth of 500 m. The model is interpreted as a porous diatreme which hosts a deep saline aquifer from the potential inflow of nearby hot springs and salt flats. Furthermore, experimental leaching studies have suggested that water-rock interactions of the CVZ ignimbrites may lead to the release of Li and As in saline waters. The highly fractured Cerro Overo diatreme, emplaced in the Tuyajto Ignimbrite, may be an ideal Li-As rich aquifer, and this study could contribute to further developing a conceptual model for saline aquifers in a Li-rich region.
