Abstract
This study focuses on improving the infrastructure of the Las Garzas reservoir, located in the commune of Ninhue, Ñuble, Chile. Given the increasing climate variability and the importance of reservoirs in water management in the country, various lining alternatives for the reservoir's discharge channel were evaluated to optimize its capacity to handle maximum flows and ensure its long-term durability. Historical precipitation data were used to calculate maximum flows, and the HCanales software was employed to simulate the flow in the spillway under different lining conditions. The results identified the most suitable alternative from a technical and economic perspective, ensuring the structural stability of the spillway while minimizing environmental impact.
