Abstract
The purpose of this work is to make a diagnostic of household solid waste (HSW) of the San Clemente commune, where it is specifically studied the waste quantify and composition. The methodology used is based on the Chilean norm NCh – 3321; applying in each local unit, which subdivides the commune, and in socio-economic strata, which are perceived in person. It is found that the most produced component was organic matter and a large presence of plastic, paper-cardboard, and aluminum, residues that were potentially valuable. Likewise, urban local units generated most of the waste, with exception of two rural sectors that are far from the urban center and have a higher production of waste. From these results, a proposal was made based on activities that focus on environmental education and waste minimization, thus improving the current waste management.
