Abstract
The objective of this study is to characterize the environmental impacts caused by the Fracking method in the Magallanes Region, with the purpose of establishing the most affected communes, the most significant impacts and the effects on the environmental components. The methodology used was based on obtaining approved or qualifying projects through the Environmental Assessment Service (SEA) and, in conjunction with information obtained from the Library of the National Congress, creating maps with the location of wells and settlements, where it is possible to determine that the most intervened commune is Primavera. In addition, thanks to the bibliographic study and analysis of the projects, it is determined that the most significant impacts are the large volumes of fresh water that are used and the contamination of the same, therefore the environmental component that is most affected is water and the subsoil. Finally, it is observed that our country insists on economic growth through the extraction of unconventional hydrocarbons.
