Abstract
The present study analyzes irrigation in cherry trees, considering water application systems, management, operation, and production to optimize production. A general analysis of fruit trees was carried out with study cases, to provide information on the irrigation and water management parameters that influence the development of the tree, the determination of water demand and production. Research that relates the reference evapotranspiration (ETo) and current evapotranspiration (ETa) was considered; showing that the ETa obtained with the AQUASAT platform provides an adequate value of the water demand in cherry trees and its subsequent management. Studies that incorporate the irrigation system as an alternative for frost control in cherry trees were also examined. The information obtained demonstrates that an inadequate selection of the irrigation system, an incorrect management of irrigation times and excessive or restrictive application of water have consequences on the production and quality of the fruit.
