Own by Virginia Woolf is a feminist essay that, despite having been written more than 90 years ago, remains popular and controversial, and so are its translations. This research identifies feminist translation strategies in the translation made by María-Milagros Rivera, in order to define this text as a feminist translation and compare it with the 1936 translation made by Jorge Luis Borges, where translation's techniques were identified. This study is qualitative and non-experimental, with a descriptive-comparative analysis approach. The results showed that there is a transfer of feminist ideology in Rivera's translation; moreover, 3 feminist translation strategies (hijacking, supplementing, prefacing/footnoting) were identified in the last four analysed chapters. The most common translation techniques in Borges' translation were literal translation, transposition and borrowing, among others. In conclusion, multiple dissimilarities were identified between the two translations, demonstrating how different the translations of the same text can be, taking into consideration the year of publication and the translators' stance on Virginia Woolf's feminist ideology.
